Typozone 5

Exhibition, 11 April - 12 May 2024.
Opening, 11 April 2024, 17.00
Eger, Templom Gallery

In 2024, the Institute of Media and Design of the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University of Eger organizes the TYPOZONE exhibition for the fifth time – for the second time in the form of a biennial – in the Temple Gallery of Eger. As in previous years, we have invited all the institutions of graphic design education in the country to the exhibition. As of 2022, we are also inviting some of the region training institutions from abroad to participate, so 11 universities from 5 countries are taking part in the exhibition. We are particularly pleased to welcome new participants from the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín and the Department of Art from the Partium Christian University in Oradea. Thus, the initiative of the Institute of Media and Design could continue to be an event that reaches out to the graphic design community.

The concept we envisioned in 2017 has been realized again this year, and we are grateful to everyone who enthusiastically supported this vision and made it a reality. Once again, thanks go to the invited universities for their participation, as well as to the decision-makers and colleagues at Eszterházy Károly Catholic University. We would also like to express our special thanks to the Church Gallery of Eger, which provides a special atmosphere to make the Typozone gathering and brand a unique and distinctive visitor attraction. The Typozone initiative has grown in terms of participants and exhibited works, as well as recognition and importance. And perhaps not only for us, – the
organizers –, but also for those who have been following our events for years and are interested in visual culture and, within it, in typographic innovation. It is a great pleasure that our progrmamme has grown into an uninterrupted event through years of joint efforts and exchanges of ideas.

The theme of Typozone 5 is Human Touch. In addition to the artist’s own individuality, emotions, and personal style, the handmark also encompasses the qualities that the artist, the human being, can represent. In this way, art is not only about technical skill or adherence to standards but also about how the artist incorporates their personality, experience, and point of view into the work. It can be interpreted simultaneously in the way the artist handles materials, uses techniques, and expresses ideas or emotions. Indeed, the texture, gestures, composition, choice of subject matter, and even the mistakes that give character and authenticity to the work are unmistakable. In this sense, the human touch in design connects the viewer to the creators’ humanity and to the shared human experiences they wish to convey. The human touch creates a deeper emotional connection between the artist and the audience, allowing the viewer to interpret and resonate with the work on a more personal level, making it not only a visual representation but also a reflection of their inner self.
