Typozone /6/

Exhibition, 14 May - 6 June 2026.
Opening, 14 May 2026, 18.00
Eger, Kracker House (3300 Eger, 16. Széchenyi str.)

In 2026, the TYPOZONE exhibition will be hosted for the sixth time as a biennial event by the Institute of Media and Design at the Faculty of Visual Arts and Music of Eszterházy Károly Catholic University in Eger, in the exhibition halls of the Faculty of Visual Arts and Music’s new home named Kracker House. As in previous years, graphic design programs in Hungary and leading foreign institutions in the region have been invited to participate; the exhibition is being realized in collaboration with 13 universities from 6 countries. The works of the participating institutions will be evaluated by a professional jury, and the Typozone Hungarian Typography Award will be presented in the student and faculty categories. The exhibition is complemented by a catalog and accompanying programs – lectures, forums, and presentations – which also showcase current trends in contemporary typographic thought and their educational contexts. The 2026 program is rounded out by an international conference and conference proceedings, reinforcing Typozone’s role as a research and educational platform exploring the future of typography.

This year, we ask: can typography be alive? Can a letter breathe, can a word grow, and can we read in the same way that nature operates–in layers, rhythms, and interwoven systems? Typozone /6/ approaches typography not as a fixed form, but as an evolving, sensitive, and responsive medium where the boundaries between writing and the living world blur. What happens when a letter does not signify but behaves; does not represent but participates? “Typobiomimetics” – the term we produced – denotes a typographic mindset that interprets nature’s organizational principles and operational logics not merely as an aesthetic source but as a design model.

The exhibition and its related events explore the possibility of typography becoming a medium for hope, ecological sensitivity, and creative presence. Can visual systems be created that not only communicate but also connect–to one another, to the environment, and to the future? Perhaps the typography of the future is not merely a tool, but also a space for art and thought: a system that not only mediates but also connects–people and the environment, the present and future possibilities.
