In 2002, with the establishment of the Fine Arts — Graphics BA programme at Partium Christian University (PCU), visual arts higher education in the Hungarian language was actually born in Oradea, Romania. Our department owes a lot to its founder, László Ujvárossy; and its current head of department, Zoltán Balázs; as well as to its former and current lecturers.
In 2010, we reached another milestone with launching our Visual Communication MA programme. Over the past twenty-four years, our graphics programme has become a leading centre for Hungarian-speaking design students in Romania.
A defining feature of our identity is the integration of applied arts education with an interdisciplinary approach, alongside the parallel teaching of manual and digital techniques.
The foundation and driving force of our visual education programmes is creativity. For us, it is synonymous with an experimental, artistic approach; conscious, responsible design attitude, and practice-oriented development. Through our project-based education, students gain professional experience before they are leaving university to start work; engage in real commissions, and create diploma projects that respond to actual, real-stake challenges.
Today, as a result of consistent development, our institution has evolved into a creative environment where state-of-the-art equipment, workshops, media labs, photo and sound studios provide ideal conditions for high-quality production.
Furthermore, we believe in team spirit, collaborative thinking, and open dialogue between teachers and students, as well as, between partner institutions. Our programmes maintain an increasingly visible national and international presence — both physical and digital — through active participation in exhibitions, professional programmes, and collaborative initiatives.
