Exciting times are ahead for the »Design Campus« preparing for its first graduation ceremony in Győr - it has found a new home. In the first building of the Széchenyi University’s “Science Park” project, serving multiple purposes, the Design Department of the Faculty of Arts has been accommodated on three levels. More precisely: the setup and creating a homelike atmosphere are currently in progress.
Distinctive human touches are being incorporated during the spring semester, as the former iconic biscuit factory warehouse, commonly known as the “Kocka” is being repurposed – spaces are being created – studios, labs, classrooms, auditoriums and a separate building named the “Design Factory” which houses workshops for architecture, industrial design, and graphic design, is aiming to create a new educational environment characterized not only by comfort and modern features but also by homeliness.
The picturesque natural features, the city’s patinated past, its rich cultural life, the university’s professional diversity, its sparkling, large campus with more than ten thousand students provide plenty of inspiration, opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations in addition to in-depth individual work, and also for recharge. The Győr-effect is also a characterizing factor in the formation of creative signatures. We consciously work to ensure that these human touches mature into brand value over time, through the development of content and projects.
Studios, sculptures, mock-ups, models, and pop-up exhibitons with a permanent and mandala fate studies and mark our spaces in the same way that Kurt Schwitters shaped his spaces with the specific Merzbau vision, for many years, according to the workings of the culture-researching mind. For him, the homely (image) space was a “collaged cathedral”, which he experienced as authentic, as a signature, according to his habitus and creed. This work was destroyed in World War II. The replacement version also burned down in Norway. The third time it was built in the Great Britain, Schwitters died. Based on a few photos, we only know his original 3D typographic work. With pictorial metastases, but his creative signature is still alive, with his dynamism and creativity still having a strong impact today.
By the time of the 5th Typozone, the tech-dependence of our reality and realities – born from dust and dead in pixels – has already increased to such an extent that, in addition to the enjoyment of speed, the importance of braking also arises. Due to its technology, no matter how popular the designs inspired by handwriting are, contemporary typography is digitally determined, so as its practitioners we can now look excited and refreshed at this holiday-worthy event in Eger to observe the nature of human touch that can also be found in the layers of machine character, we can examine the human factor that should not be marginalized. For example, we should ask one of our AI helpers, our smart friends, whether the soon-to-be-conscious humanoid robots relative will take notes by hand in preparation for the art history exam?
