The Faculty of Visual Arts at the University of Pécs, makes related fields of study interact with each other intensely: painting, creative voice, and design. The Faculty also provides graphic designers the experience to expand their own individual repertoire of expressions. Typography, including calligraphy, classical typography, high-quality letter design, publication design, and experimental typography, all play a prominent role in our graphic design courses.
Using various software is inevitable, but unfortunately, they often lead the students to adapt to trends and homogenize their individual paths of graphic design. Our creative instructors can recognize when the students solve their creative tasks with template solutions and learn well-presented visual clichés from tutorials. Special visual solutions will inevitably become commonplace, but this is not a problem at our Faculty, we know that it is a natural process, and also that this phase should be overcome as soon as possible - the advanced critical sense of our instructors also helps the students to find their own personal character and artistic path.
Due to the open educational structure of the Faculty of Arts, graphic design students can also have a look at painting, sculpture, object design, graphic design, and photography studies, so they can have many more approaches when implementing their design tasks. In addition to the frequently mentioned dilemma of the letter-and-image design and the well-known and often described topos of image-text composition problems, the focus of the courses is to bring to the front smart individual ideas developed in drawing and other visual techniques. 3D, illustration skills and other innovative solutions give the graphic design training in Pécs a special and unique character.
At first glance, experimental typographic design is a field of experimentation that seems to be aimless: however, the various possibilities it provides can ultimately create a clear and practical style of your own. This is how trend followers become trendsetters, extremists become successful graphic designers – and this is how new typefaces are born.
